Last Saturday’s Open House brought 101 prospective students and their families to campus—304 visitors total from 15 states—for a day of discovery, inspiration, and possibility.

They came with questions. They left with answers, connections, and a feel for what makes Ƶ different.

Families explored all 13 majors at the Resource Fair, toured studios where student work lines the walls, grabbed lunch at Cunniffe Commons, and heard directly from current students about what campus life actually looks like. The conversations happening in hallways and at tables throughout the day? Those were the real highlights—prospective students connecting with faculty who could become their mentors, parents asking the practical questions that matter, everyone getting a sense of whether this place could be home for the next four years.

Didn’t Make It? There’s Still Time.

If you missed Open House, Ringling Spotlight Day on Friday, March 6, offers another chance to experience the campus. It’s a focused half-day visit: meet faculty, connect with your admissions counselor, tour campus, hear from current students, and get your questions answered by the people who’ll support you from application through graduation.

Your campus visit just got more valuable.

We’re confident you’ll feel it the moment you step on campus—that spark of recognition that this might be the right place. So confident, in fact, that we’re backing it up with our new Ringling Visit Scholarship: a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year over four years) for incoming students who attend an on-campus tour or admissions event and are accepted and enrolled for Fall 2026 or later.

Prospective students and their families traveled from across the state of Florida and even the United States to attend Ƶ’s Spring Open House last week. Almost 300 students registered for the event and 550 guests were present.

The visitors started the day with a breakfast at Cunniffe Commons, the College’s expansive eatery, where Dr. Larry Thompson offered welcome remarks. After breakfast, they attended the Majors and Resource Fair in the Diane Roskamp Exhibition Hall, where they explored all of Ƶ’s 13 majors and the many support systems available to students. Families then scheduled tours with student guides or independently roamed the Campus, visiting the brand-new Esports Arena, the residence halls, explored Student Life clubs, and all the buildings that house the majors. In the Academic Center, they explored the floors that house Motion Design, Graphic Design, Business of Art and Design, the First Year Program, and the Design Center. On the second floor, staff from the Admissions department gave a presentation on portfolio development, and in the Morgonroth Auditorium, there was a financial aid presentation for the parents.

All 13 majors opened their doors to prospective students and their families, demonstrating their state-of-the-art facilities, the breadth of student work, and giving them a chance to speak with current students from each of the departments. Photo: Cecilia Marty ’26, Photography and Imaging

At a pop-up photo booth in the lobby, prospective students posed in front of the AC Center’s iconic plant wall. Social media manager and manager of Street Team, a group of talented student workers who contribute social media content for all of the College’s social platforms, Payton Adam shared details from the day, “It was well attended, and the photo booth was really popular. Prospective students waited in line to get their photographs taken with friends and family. One of our students prompted visitors to go upstairs to see a display of student work on the First Year Program floor, which included figure drawings and miniature models of environments, creatures, and architecture. That was also really popular with visitors.”

After breaking for lunch at Cunniffe Commons, guests stuck around for a student panel hosted by the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, where current students shared their experiences and perspectives on what it is like to go to Ƶ, live in Sarasota, and on the Campus culture.

Each year Ƶ receives hundreds, if not thousands of families of prospective students here to visit the campus. Of those students, roughly half will see the face of Dean of Admissions Gregg Prigerson at some point in the process.

Prigerson estimates, “Just this week alone, and it was a slow week, I met with about 25-30 families.” He said, “Around spring break (Feb. and March) that 25 per week expands to probably 75-100 families a week.”

Prigerson is celebrating his 10th anniversary at Ƶ this year, and 25 years in admissions for higher ed. He was born and raised in New York City. He first attended college at Tulane University in New Orleans, and soon after transferred to Clemson University in South Carolina, where he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees. While in graduate school, Prigerson worked in the admissions office and loved it. Working in that department sparked a thought that would stick with him for the rest of his career, “Wow, you get paid to travel around the country and entice people to go to a school you already love. So, you’re selling your school to people that may know it and may not. And you’re going to California and other places you might never have gone to.”

Before his decade tenure in Ringling’s Office of Admissions, Prigerson had already worked in admissions at four other colleges, including Stanford University and University of Miami-Coral Gables, and as the Director of College Counseling at a prep school in Lake Mary, Florida for 2 years. It was during his time in Lake Mary that he was first drawn to Ƶ. Each year a couple of his students would apply, which prompted him to make a day trip to Sarasota to check it out. He was immediately enamored, “I came away with a very positive perspective and knew this was a gem of an institution. The technology I saw, the conversations I had, the facilities that I walked through all convinced me that this was a super choice and one that I would highly recommend. Oh, and Sarasota was not too shabby either.”

His favorite part of the job is hearing directly from prospective students that Ringling is their first-choice school, and when they enroll hearing them mention that he helped them in their journey. He also takes a lot of joy in signing their acceptance letters.

On Feb. 11 Ƶ will open its campus to hundreds of guests from around the world at its annual Spring Open House. Students are invited to visit the studios, labs, and classrooms of different departments. They can peek into an unoccupied dorm room. They will hear from current students at a question and answer panel session, view first year student work, and watch a presentation on developing a high quality portfolio for their application. Visitors are sure to find Prigerson outside of the Admissions office chatting with prospective students and their families.

Applications are now open for the 2023-24 school year.

High school students and their parents from across the country traveled to Sarasota this weekend to spend their Saturday learning about Ƶ. More than 300 students and their families attended the event, bringing an estimated 850 people to campus.

During the Fall 2022 Open House, guests had the opportunity to learn more about the College’s 13 different undergraduate majors, explore the student life and housing programs, and get tips on preparing their portfolios, seeking out financial assistance, and applying for admissions.

“It’s so important for students who are interested in coming to Ringling to meet our students and our faculty and staff, and really experience what it’s like to be a student here – and see firsthand what a beautiful place Sarasota is,” said Dr. Jason Good, vice president for enrollment management and marketing.

The event was the largest open house since the COVID pandemic began in March 2019 and was nearly canceled due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian.

Guests also had the opportunity to tour campus, meet with the faculty, and visit campus galleries. Representatives from campus clubs and organizations shared information with guests and handed out free swag. The day ended with a discussion with college President Dr. Larry Thompson about innovation and technology – and why creativity is the most important skill to have in the 21st century and in the future.

“Ƶ is the place that is really dedicated to preparing students for success in tomorrow’s world,” said Dr. Thompson. “We are positioning them to emerge as leaders in an economy that relies heavily on creative skills and design thinking. And, we are committed to helping our students turn their creative passions into their professions.”

While parents and families attended a financial aid workshop during the Fall Open House, many students attended a session to learn about developing the portfolio they need to submit when applying for admission to Ƶ.

Highly regarded as one of the top art and design schools in the United States, more than 3,000 students from across the world apply to Ringling each year. Some of the most highly competitive majors include the Computer Animation and Motion Design majors. The Computer Animation program is ranked #1 in the world by The Rookies, while the Motion Design program is ranked #1 in the United States. And, the College’s Game Art program is ranked #1 in the United States.

Applications are now open for the 2023-24 school year and Ringling’s Spring 2023 Open House will be held Saturday, Feb. 11.

For more information, contact the Office of Admissions at 941-309-0195 or admissions@ringling.edu.
